Welcome to Benson Hill Cooperative Preschool!

Benson Hill Cooperative Preschool is a not-for-profit school that offers classes for children from one through five years old.  We have been proudly serving families in our community for over 50 years.  Our preschool offers large daylight classrooms with a variety of materials including; free choice art area, children's library, drama room, block building room, and natural playground with sensory garden. We are just a short drive from Renton, Kent, Covington, Maple Valley, Auburn, and Tukwila.  We are a nut free school.

About our School

Our Philosophy

We believe parents are their child’s first teacher, and we elaborate on that connection to nurture the children’s curiosity and self esteem in the classroom. This direct parent involvement helps children develop all aspects of growth; cognitive, social, emotional and physical. With parents and teachers working together in the classroom, our children can discover, explore, create, and learn to make decisions with confidence.  We believe in a continuum of growth and provide opportunities for families to foster relationships that will continue to grow as their child moves into each class up through graduation.

Our Curriculum

The curriculum at Benson Hill is crafted with exceptional care from our experienced teachers.  At Benson Hill we place a high value on child-led learning and entice children to learn through play with creative interest centers in the classroom and engaging circle time.  Topics and themes in the classroom are developmentally appropriate and incorporate STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math) activities that are driven by emergent curriculum, which allows the children to engage on a deeper and more meaningful level.  Our teachers take pride in preparing the children for Kindergarten and helping parents feel ready for this big step.  With a strong background in early childhood education, our teachers diligently observe the children to ensure the classroom environment adapts to their needs and provides stimulation for every child's learning style. This play-based learning approach partnered with our unique class environment is what makes Benson Hill such a magical place and sets us apart from other preschools.

Our Natural Playscape

We believe children deserve time and space to connect with nature and breathe fresh air.  At Benson Hill, our large playground area is intentionally viewed as a natural space that is shaped by the child's imagination.  We place a strong emphasis on loose parts which encourages imaginative play, problem solving and critical thinking.  Our parents have come together to maintain this unique space; building a sensory garden filled with aromatic herbs and a vegetable garden.
